Job Description for Nature and Outdoor Education Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
  • Ability to relate to one’s peers
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Good character, integrity, and self control
  • Maintain enthusiasm, energy, positive attitude and appearance and interact with campers at all times
  • 18 years of age

Reports to:

Program Director and/or Executive Director

Position Purpose:

To plan, direct and supervise camp’s environmental education program

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe environment for campers and staff
  • Set up nature museum and outdoor skills area prior to and during staff training
  • Teach staff their responsibilities in activity during staff training
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment
  • Create activity plans that will coincide with the education of nature and environmental concerns for the campers
  • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials
  • Conduct initial and end of season inventory and store equipment for safety.
    • Assist in packing all materials and supplies at end of season
  • Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies and program for following season
  • Work with Program Directors on schedules and planning special programs on a weekly basis
  • Write weekly Nature News for camp newspaper and turn into Office by end of day on Wednesday
