Keeping Warm in the Wintertime

snow photo

All is white as ice covers the pond, the fields, and the waterfall, which is a marvel to behold. The ice drips down in layers and forms a solid ice curtain covering the waterfall. You can hear the trickle of water underneath the ice as it works it way down.

The only creatures enjoying this freezing weather are the ducks! They walk in a line across the frozen ice slipping and sliding and havng a great time. They reach the small patch of water that is not frozen and contentedly paddle around.

Buddy goat and Milo pig only stick their noses out for food in the morning, eat, and quickly return to their heated houses filled with hay. The water is frozen, so we haul buckets of water for them. All of the animals' water is frozen and must be replaced every day. The horses have a heating element in their large water bin that keeps the water from freezing. The horses have coats on to help keep them keep warm and the barn to use for shelter from the wind.

Everything is quiet and hushed as all of us hunker down and try to keep warm.
