Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp

Meet the Farm Animals

photo of Milo

Milo, the Celebrity Pig

Milo is a five-year-old pig who loves people! He is a combination of Vietnamese Pot-Belly Pig, American Farm Pig, and Mini-Pig.

We call Milo a "Celebrity Pig" because he was on TV and in the newspaper. Pedro Garcia, the superintendent of Metro Nashville Schools, said that he would kiss a pig if Metro test scores went up. Well, test scores did improve - so Dr. Garcia had to kiss Milo!

In the Riding Ring

Ace. Bond's Jet Ace is 22 years old, 16 hands high, and is a registered Appaloosa. He is Julia's horse and all the campers love him and want to ride him. His favorite treats are apples and carrots. When he first came to Whippoorwill, he was afraid of the chickens and the pig! He has been in many horse shows.

Tinker. Tinker was raised by the Amish community as a carriage pony and was adopted by Whippoorwill. He has one blue eye and one brown eye. Tinker can untie knots, open doors and gates, and will carry off anything that is left out within reach -- especially food! He has even gotten into the chicken house. He is brown and is about 16 years old. His coat is very furry!

Misty. Misty is a quarter horse, and the technical term for her color is flea bitten (she's speckled gray). Misty is very bossy, and she is the alpha mare.

Several sweet ponies live at Whippoorwill during the summer - favorites include Cowboy and Silver.

Buddy

Buddy is a miniature goat who came to Whippoorwill when he was one month old. Buddy lives in the pig paddock with Milo. Each night Buddy gets a bottle of water before he goes to bed. He wants to be friends with Milo, but Milo isn't sure he wants to be friends with Buddy!

Chickens, Ducks, and Bunnies

Campers who sign up for the Farming Interest Group get to collect eggs in the henhouse and play with the ducks and bunnies in Bunny Village. The bunnies love to nibble on willow branches.

Lilly and the Cats

Lilly is the camp dog, and she's famous for adopting a pet possum! Campers will have fun petting the farm cats: Wednesday, Micah, and Spots.
