American Camp Association
For over 36 years, Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp has been an accredited member of the American Camping Association. A lot of parents do not know or understand the importance of ACA Accreditation. Camp Whippoorwill would like to share with you what it all means and why it is important when choosing a camp for your child.
The article, Fun And Safety - ACA Camps Set the Standard (below), is from ACA and explains the significance of membership. You may also check out the parent website from ACA with lots of camp resources at http://www.campparents.org/
Fun And Safety - ACA Camps Set the Standard
ACA Accreditation means that the camp you are considering for your child cares enough to undergo a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation - from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. American Camp Association® collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.
ACA helps accredited camps provide:
- Healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences
- Discovery through experiential education
- Caring, competent role models
- Service to the community and the environment
- Opportunities for leadership and personal growth
Here at Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp, we hope that you and your campers find a safe and fun environment. Our emphasis is on developing children to be well-rounded members of their communities, while sharing the importance of exploring nature and creating life lasting bonds. We hope to see you at camp!
