About the Celebration
Whippoorwill’s founder, Sidney Wooten, always dreamed of building a place where children could explore nature, learn the importance of self-discovery, and have a place to call home. Her dream started 40 years ago with the founding of Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp. Now, in 2012, Whippoorwill is commemorating its 40th anniversary and we’d love for campers, counselors, and Whippoorwill friends (old and new) to help us celebrate!
Our hope is that you will spend the day remembering your camp days at Whippoorwill and creating new memories with the next generation. Happy Camping!
Schedule
- 12 noon – celebration begins
- 12:30, 2:30, 3 – Counselor-led nature hikes on the Whippoorwill Trail
- 1-3 – S’mores, between Log Cabin and Bear Cub camps
- 1:30 – Birthday cake and tribute in the front gazebo
- 2:30 – Adults vs. kids Battleball game in the field
- Continuous Activities, for children and adults. (All activities will take a break from 1:30-2, unless otherwise noted.):
- Kayaking/paddle boarding at the pond
- Rock Climbing at the 40-ft. climbing wall
- Arts and Crafts at the art and craft deck
- Camp Movies in the Teepee gazebo
- Creek Play (at designated areas) in Teepee and Log Cabin
- Zipline at the pond
- Tie-Dye at the hilltop barn
- 40th anniversary memorabilia available for purchase
